In Japan, system owners are paid 48yen per surplus kwh produced for 10 years from the time of installation. "Surplus" means that the solar power generated minus the power consumed. This price made it possible for the owners to recover their initial investment in 10+ years (used to be more than 20years when the price was only 24 yen per kwh).
It costs about 650,000 yen (about 7,000 USD) per KW to install the system. Domestic producers are Sharp, Kyocera, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Panasonic, Honda, etc.
